Talk to a plumber, not a call centre
Leave your details and someone who knows the difference between Downalong and Bodmin Moor will ring you back — not a call centre reading from a script.
Thank you — we have got that
Your enquiry is with us and we will ring you back on the number you gave. If you marked it urgent it goes to the top of the list. If water is still escaping, turn your stopcock off now — the steps are just below.
Water escaping right now? Do these three things before you do anything else — they save more damage than anything we can do once we arrive.
- Turn the water off. The internal stopcock is usually under the kitchen sink, in a downstairs cloakroom or by the front door. Turn it clockwise.
- Open the cold taps. That drains the pipework down and stops it feeding the leak.
- If water is near electrics, switch off at the consumer unit and do not touch anything wet.
If you can smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately — it is free from any phone and answered around the clock. Open the windows, do not touch any electrical switches, and get everyone out.
