Boiler installation in Truro

We install and replace boilers throughout Truro. The important part happens before anything is fitted: working out what output the house actually needs, whether the existing pipework and radiators can carry it, and what the flue can lawfully do.

Why boiler installation in Truro is its own job

Truro is the county's commercial centre and the place most of Cornwall passes through, so it is where we are based and where we can usually get to you quickest. The city packs an unusual amount of variety into a small area: Georgian merchant houses on Lemon Street, flats carved out of the floors above the shops on Boscawen Street, and sprawling modern estates out at Threemilestone and Highertown.

The property here

Central Truro is dominated by Georgian and Victorian townhouses, a great many of them listed or in the conservation area, and a large number since divided into flats and offices. Original pipework runs in awkward places and rarely where the drawings suggest. Out at Highertown, Threemilestone and Gloweth the stock flips to post-war and modern estate housing with conventional layouts and, increasingly, first-generation combis now old enough to need replacing.

What catches people out in Truro

The city-centre flat conversions are the ones that catch people out. A leak on a second-floor bathroom above a shop does not stay a second-floor problem — it becomes three businesses' problem within the hour, and access has to be arranged with people who are trading. We plan those jobs around the building rather than just the flat. Truro also sits where the Kenwyn and the Allen meet before the tidal Truro River, so the lower-lying parts of the city have a genuine history of water where it shouldn't be.

Boiler installation in Truro — what actually matters

Installing in flats and conversions

In a converted building the flue route, the condensate run and the ventilation all have to work within a structure somebody else owns part of, and that usually means the freeholder or management company is involved. We establish what is actually permissible before quoting, not after.

Flues in listed property

Flue routing in a listed building is a planning question as well as a technical one, and the obvious external position is frequently not permissible. We work that out before quoting, not on installation day.

Replacements in terraced houses

Moving a boiler in a terrace is often the right call — out of the kitchen, shorter flue, better pipe routes — and it is nearly always the option nobody mentions. It costs more on the day and pays back in efficiency and in never having to work around it again.

Replacing first-generation central heating

Where the original system dates from the seventies or eighties, the pipework is often undersized microbore and the radiators are full of sludge. Fitting a modern condensing boiler onto that without addressing it will void the warranty and kill the appliance early.

  • Unvented hot water cylinder installation
  • System flushing and filter fitting as standard
  • Building control notification and warranty registration

How it works

  1. 1

    Survey — in person

We look at the house, the pipework, the radiators, the flue route and the gas supply. A boiler cannot be specified properly from a web form and we do not pretend otherwise.

  2. 2

    Heat loss calculation

Room by room, so the boiler and the radiators are sized to the building. This is the step that gets skipped, and it is the step that determines your running costs for the next fifteen years.

  3. 3

    A fixed written quote

Itemised, with the appliance named and the warranty stated. No pressure, and it stays valid long enough for you to think about it.

  4. 4

    Installation

Typically one to two days for a straight replacement, longer for a conversion. Dust sheets, and the heating back on the same evening wherever possible.

  5. 5

    Handover and registration

We commission it, show you how it works, register the warranty and notify building control. You get the paperwork before we leave.

What it costs

Every installation is quoted individually after a survey, at a fixed price. We do not publish a price list for boilers because a number without a survey behind it is a number that changes on the day — which is precisely the practice that gives this trade its reputation.

Mains gas in Truro

Truro is well served by mains gas across the city and the main suburbs, though outlying villages towards Chacewater and Shortlanesend can be a mixed picture.

Straight answers

Boiler installation in Truro — your questions

If yours is not here, send us the form and ask. We would rather spend five minutes answering a question than have you book something you did not need.

How long does a boiler installation take?

A straightforward like-for-like swap is usually a day, sometimes two. Moving the boiler, converting from a back boiler, or changing system type takes longer and we will tell you honestly at quote stage.

Do I need a magnetic filter?

Yes, and we fit one as standard. Most manufacturer warranties now require one, and it is the cheapest thing you can do to protect the heat exchanger.

Should I switch to a combi?

Not always. Combis suit smaller properties with one bathroom and good mains pressure. If you have two bathrooms, poor incoming pressure or several people showering at once, a system boiler and cylinder is usually the better answer — and plenty of firms will sell you the combi anyway.

What about a heat pump instead?

For an off-grid property currently on oil or LPG, a heat pump is genuinely worth modelling. For a solid-walled granite cottage with no insulation, it usually is not, yet. We will give you a straight answer rather than a sales pitch either way.

Do you cover the villages around Truro as well as the town?

Yes — Highertown, Threemilestone, Gloweth, Malpas, Kenwyn, Newbridge, Shortlanesend, Chacewater and Playing Place are all part of our normal Truro patch, along with the smaller places between them. If you are not sure whether we reach you, send the form and ask.

How quickly can you get to Truro?

We are based on the Truro side of the county, so city callouts are typically the fastest response we offer.
